Joyce DiDonato is one of the great opera singers of our time. Her new show isn’t an opera, but it often feels like one, bringing power and depth to the concert experience to explore an age-old question: How do we find peace in a chaotic world?

Friday night at Bing Hall, Stanford Live presented the U.S. premiere of “In War and Peace: Harmony Through Music.” Conceived in response to last year’s Paris attacks and performed by the acclaimed mezzo-soprano with the period instrument ensemble Il Pomo D’Oro, it brought a large measure of theatrical verve to the traditional concert format. The performance repeats Sunday afternoon at UC Berkeley’s Zellerbach Hall under the auspices of Cal Performances.
