Joyce DiDonato has the balm for a troubled present: Centuries‑old music ...The Chicago Tribune
The popular American opera and concert diva Joyce DiDonato can write her own ticket just about anywhere she pleases.
Opera composers create starring roles for her, new productions fall in her lap and her devoted fan base, which includes legions of followers on social media, can’t seem to get enough of her. She recently made her off-Broadway debut as one of the rotating stars of the enigmatic solo play “White Rabbit, Red Rabbit.”
Everything DiDonato undertakes — whether it’s performing Rossini or Mozart in the leading opera houses, or reaching out to the next generation of opera singers online — is driven by an overriding desire to communicate, explains opera’s mezzo of the moment.
And her latest musical project is about communicating what it means to her, as a socially conscious artist, to be living at a troubled time in world history.
